Community Development

From the Director

The Community Development Department is responsible for administering and implementing the goals and policies of the City of Eureka’s adopted general plan. We endeavor to promote comment, understanding, and public interest in the planning process and the numerous regulations pertaining to it by providing public information services to a broad range of citizens and citizen groups.

Our Department is comprised of a number of different divisions, including: Current Planning/Permitting; Long Range Planning; Enforcement; and, Environmental Planning. We also provide direct staff support to numerous Boards and Commissions, including the Planning Commission; Historic Preservation Commission; Design Review Committee; and, a variety of ad hoc committees.

In addition to myself, the Department is staffed by people who, I believe, are the best qualified, have the most experience and are the most professional in their field. They are: Sidnie L. Olson, AICP, Principal Planner, Current Planning; Lisa Shikany, Environmental Planner; Rob Wall, AICP, Senior Planner Long Range Planning; Kristen Goetz, Assistant Planner, Current Planning; and, Cindy Brown, Senior Administrative Assistant.
