On July 18, 2008, the Eureka Fire Department held a badge pinning ceremony to acknowledge four individuals. For the first time in the history of the department, Eureka Fire Department has hired lateral Fire Engineers. Patrick Beyer and Jon Chambers joined our own newly promoted Rick Lahargoue into the rank of Fire Engineer. We also welcomed back Chris Emmons who has returned to EFD after a nearly one year absence working for Cal Fire.
Patrick Beyer – Fire Engineeer
Patrick grew up in Columbus, Ohio. He moved to Humboldt County in 1998 to study Geography at Humboldt State University. While at HSU, Patrick met his future wife while on the rowing team. Patrick spent his summers as a climbing guide on Mt. Rainier. Through this experience, Patrick discovered his love for helping people. After graduating in 2002, Patrick pursued a career in the fire service. Patrick spent two seasons working for Cal Fire. Patrick comes to us from our neighboring fire department, Humboldt Fire District where he was a Firefighter until promoting to Engineer in 2006. Patrick enjoys spending time with his family; his wife Hillarie and his daughter Willow. Patrick and Hillarie welcomed a second daughter, Acacia, born Tuesday of this week.
Jonathan Chambers – Fire Engineer
After graduating from Fresno City College with an AA degree in June of 2001, Jon worked for one season with Cal Fire Tehama/Glen. Jon came to us from the Hanford Fire Department where he worked as a Firefighter for three years before promoting to Engineer in 2005. Jon and his wife Melinda have one daughter, Rachel. Jon enjoys his family, camping, dirt bikes, eating, and lifting weights.
Rick Lahargoue – Promotion to Fire Engineer
Rick Lahargoue came to EFD with twelve seasons of experience with Cal Fire, attaining the rank of Fire Apparatus Engineer. Rick served as one of our volunteer firefighters for two years before becoming a career firefighter in August 2002. Rick assists with the important collateral duty of maintaining the department’s Breathing Air Compressor. Rick coordinates the Eureka Firefighters’ Annual Christmas Toy Drive. Rick spends countless hours each year on this worthy project. Rick is an avid football enthusiast (although a misguided Raiders fan). Rick and his wife Vickie love being grandparents.
Chris Emmons – Fire Captain
Chris came to Eureka Fire Department in 1996 and promoted though the ranks to the position of Fire Captain II. Chris left this past year to explore a career with Cal Fire leading an inmate crew at Alder Camp. We are happy that Chris decided to return to EFD because he has a great deal of experience and many accomplishments. During his tenure at EFD; Chris managed the Volunteer Firefighter Program, Lead Instructor for the HROP Firefighter I Academy. Apparatus Committee Member and Fire/Arson Investigator. Chris is happy to return to Eureka Fire Department because it allows him to spend more time with his family; his wife Tara and children Morrgin and Colsen.
