Rusty Goodlive named as new Assistant Fire Chief / Fire Marshal

The Eureka Fire Department is pleased to announce the promotion of Fire Captain II Rusty Goodlive to the position of Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal effective August 1, 2009.

Assistant Chief Goodlive successfully participated in a rigorous five-step, two-day assessment center process that included the following components: fire service qualification oral board, incident management evaluation, customer service and business consultation exercises, and a comprehensive department interview. The process began with state and national job announcements and culminated with five candidates participating in the assessment center process. Assessors representing local business and builder disciplines, local government, and subject-matter fire professionals from throughout California assisted the department in the selection of the best candidate for the position. The department wishes to thank these community, government, and fire service representatives for their assistance in this recruitment effort.

Chief Goodlive brings not only a wealth of diverse suppression and hazardous material related experience, he also brings the critical prevention skills needed for this position. Prior to this promotion, Goodlive worked under the previous Fire Marshal, Bill Gillespie, and has committed himself to maintaining the continuity and trust that the Prevention Program has developed within our community. Chief Goodlive is filling the vacancy created by Assistant Chief Jim Yarnall’s retirement in December 2008.

Attached you will find a brief bio outlining Assistant Fire Chief Goodlive’s fire service career. A formal celebration and badge pinning is being planned for a future date.
