Eureka Fire Helps Fight Cancer

The Eureka Fire Department 2010 Relay for Life Team is selling raffle tickets for a Commemorative Helmet to help the American Cancer Society “snuff” out cancer.

The authentic traditional style pink fire helmet is a fully certified piece of fire fighting equipment.  It was purchased and donated by Eureka Fire Department staff.  No City of Eureka funds were used. The Eureka Fire Relay for Life Team wants to contribute to the fight against cancer as our department has experienced losses of its own to cancer, and most importantly, has members that have survived the disease.

The color pink traditionally reminds people of the fight against breast cancer, however, the EFD team chose pink to represent the fight against all cancers.

This year over 11-million people will celebrate another birthday due to the continued efforts of the American Cancer Society.  The EFD Relay for Life Team is proud to play a small part in assisting ACS to provide these important milestones.

When you see members of the Eureka Fire Department out and about in your community “Think Pink” when looking at their white, red, or yellow helmets.  You can become part of our team by being the fortunate person to wear the honored “Pink Helmet”.

Tickets are available for a $20.00 donation at the Eureka Fire Department Headquarters, 533 ‘C’ St., or by calling (707) 441-4000. The drawing will be held at Relay for Life on July 10th at College of the Redwoods. Need not be present to win.

Further information on the Fight Against Cancer may be found at the American Cancer Society, 2942 ‘F’ St., or by calling (707) 443-2241.
