Remember the Time Capsule, which will be entombed into a building and opened in 2056. Pamela Service, director of the ClarkeMuseum, is collecting items from the public for consideration of inclusion in the capsule. Bring a small, flat item that you believe represents life in Eureka in 2006, to the ClarkeHistoricMuseum at 240 E Street, Tuesdays through Saturdays, While there, see the 150th Anniversary exhibit put together to showcase early history in Eureka.
Go to the Morris Graves Museum of Art at 636 F Street, Wednesdays through Sundays, to the Homer Balabanais Gallery to view the historic original oil paintings, Eureka Waterfront, 1854 by Juan Buckingham Wandesford, and Ki-We-Lah-Tah by Stephen Shaw.
4th of July, visit the City’s booth near Restoration Hardware in OldTown at Main Street’s old-fashioned celebration. Purchase the commemorative 150th Anniversary art print at a cost of $10 or a 6 x 9 post card for $2. This print was scanned from Eureka Waterfront, 1854 oil painting by Juan Wandesford mentioned above. After the 4th, these may be purchased at City Hall in the mayor’s office, Monday through Friday, , closed from to for lunch, and are additionally available at Sequoia Zoo.
Enjoy perusing the 15 panels of 15 decades of historic dates and photos of Eureka, called Great Dates at HumboldtCounty’s Eureka Main Library in the ArtGallery on the2nd floor through July. The library’s hours are to , Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday; to , Wednesday; and to , Friday.
Become an individual or business sponsor of the 150th Anniversary and get your name on a Banner on F Street which will be up through the end of the year or your name on one of the Great Dates panels which will be on display at various locations in Eureka through 2006. At the end of the year, the sponsor will retain the panel. Both sponsorship opportunities are $300.
