On 11-21-2019 at 5:23pm, officers of the Eureka Police Department were dispatched to a stabbing that had just occurred at the 300 block of W. Del Norte Street in Eureka.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim, who explained that a female subject she had met recently had confronted her at the victim’s residence. The suspect brandished a knife and demanded the keys to the victim’s car. When the victim refused, the suspect lunged at the victim, ultimately stabbing her. The suspect then fled the residence with the victim’s wallet and drove off in her vehicle. The victim sustained two moderate stab wounds as a result of the assault and was transported to St. Joseph ER for treatment.

The suspect is described as an Indian Female Adult, about 40 years old, heavy build, with dark curly hair. The victim vehicle is described as a green 1996 Honda Sedan, bearing California license plate number 6ZEF118.

An attempt to locate has been sent out to all local Law Enforcement agencies for the suspect and vehicle. The public is urged to contact the police if they see the vehicle, but not to attempt to contact the suspect. The suspect is to be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation should contact Eureka Police Detective Bise at 707-441-4109.

This is an ongoing investigation and further information will be released as it becomes available.

On 11-22-2019 at about 1:47am, the Eureka Police Department Communication Center was notified by the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) that the stabbing victim’s vehicle had been located and that the female in possession of the vehicle had been taken into custody. The female was identified as Shelly Elaine John (47 years old). They further advised that John was being held on a charge of possession of stolen property and the vehicle had been impounded as evidence.

A Eureka Police Department Detective was notified and re-contacted the victim. Based on the identity information provided by SFPD, the victim was shown a photo line-up and positively identified John as the person who stabbed her. An arrest warrant was authored and issued for John for charges of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, carjacking, and elder abuse. The bail amount on the warrant is $135,000.

At the time of the writing of this press release, investigations staff are traveling to San Francisco to process the vehicle and conduct follow-up on the investigation.

This is still an ongoing investigation and further information will be released as it becomes available.
