The City of Eureka and partnering agencies will hold an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Fair at Redwood Acres on September 21 and 22 to educate and inspire people to create ADUs. Commonly called “second units” or “mother-in-law units”, an ADU is a small housing unit associated with a single-family home. The target audience for the event is owners of single-family residential properties that have an interest in creating an ADU on their property. Your property is likely able to accommodate an ADU.
Participants will arrive at the venue, be greeted and oriented, and will be free to explore a variety of stations that will inform their understanding of the regulatory and financial realities of creating an ADU. Participants will be able to speak to City planning and building department representatives, contractors, architects, bankers, property management companies, etc. to explore possibilities for their property. Additionally, a variety of ongoing presentations will be available for participants to attend. The overall theme will be that of a casual, “open-house” community meeting which will be useful to all people from the causally to the seriously interested and for those who have anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours to invest.
